Su Lie
Unyielding Steel Wall
Overview
In his youth, Su Lei rose to the top in the imperial examinations, seemingly paving a smooth path for his future: born into a prestigious family, talented and well-regarded by his teachers, his destiny seemed boundless. Yet, his classmates were stunned when he chose to abandon his scholarly pursuits and take up arms. Having grown up in Chang'an, accustomed to the bustling markets of East and West City, he often imagined exotic goods from distant lands making their way along the Silk Road, finally reaching Chang'an. The blue-eyed foreign merchant recounted captivating tales of his travels, leaving a lasting impression on the young man. Shaking camel bells, bloodied war horses, and ancient oasis cities...and the Great Wall, standing guard over prosperity, its imposing silhouette offering solace to weary travelers. Yearning for such adventures, Su Lei left behind his homeland Chang'an and, over a decade, his pen-holding hand developed calluses. He drank farewell wines with proud poets and dug up rare flowers from the desert to nurture them carefully. His belief in the Great Wall as his life's tie and destination grew stronger. At the time, trade between the Great Wall and its surroundings was frequent, but small-scale conflicts were not uncommon. Su Lei, posted as a guard, proposed to put aside weapons with other foreign commanders. They trusted his sincerity after hearing of his generosity, and both removed their guards. From then on, border citizens could hold regular markets, trading goods that once filled the fields and plains beyond the Great Wall. However, a tragic event changed his life forever. A sealed decree, stamped with a crimson seal, accused him of treason for opening the market, ordering him to atone for his crimes. Su Lei was bewildered and outraged, writing multiple protest petitions that went unanswered. Instead, urgent decrees kept pouring in, urging him to act. The ambitious commander, craving glory, secretly led his men to raid the market, stealing from the people of the Gobi Desert to claim merit for himself. When Su Lei arrived too late, all that remained were ruins and smoke from the once-bustling marketplace. Deep regret and guilt consumed his soul—especially after learning that the former ally he had made a pact with was also missing. Undoubtedly, the attack shattered years of trust, and tensions surged between both sides of the Great Wall. While high-ranking officials showered him with military honors, Su Lei felt like a fool. He had betrayed trust and peace, and it was all his fault. With an unyielding sorrow, he found himself leading the charge against the desert raiders in the battle for the empire's border city. Ordered to aid the defense, Su Lei stood at the crumbling gates, his steel sword already blunt, facing a wave of enemies as he roared and charged forward with his men. He knew he had to atone—even if it meant sacrificing his life. His body fell to the ground, and for an unknown duration, Su Lei lay unconscious. A group of migrant workers gathered meager food, desperately trying to save his life. "Are you from the guard?" a curious little boy with dusty clothes asked. "When I grow up, I want to join too. Stand on the Great Wall..." He mimicked drawing a sword. "No...you've got the wrong person," Su Lei managed to say. A voice in his heart screamed...Why was he still alive? He hadn't protected what he had cherished since youth—the dream he held dear. He...didn't deserve this name! From that day on, the former scion of a noble family and mighty warrior of the Great Wall cast aside everything. He mingled with the migrants, becoming their leader, teaching them to read and write, hunt, farm, and martial arts. Whenever chaos and conflict arose, his muscular figure would suddenly appear, rescuing those in peril. Sometimes, under the moonlight, he would remember the farewell wine with friends and perhaps never-to-be-seen Chang'an. This was his atonement. Su Lei, perhaps, should have been remembered as a victim of fate. But destiny had other plans. The crimson-robed figure appeared, ending his self-exile. "You...are not from the guard?" "I don't qualify," he replied. "But shouldn't you act like a guard and fulfill your duties?" she asked. "At least find out who sent the attack order years ago!" His broad palm clenched tightly. In the distant twilight, the Great Wall stood tall, as majestic as he had first seen it years ago. The Great Wall was there; his homeland was near.

Su Lei is an excellent front-line tank thanks to his passive ability. After equipping defensive gear, he can ensure he'll be able to stand back up and rejoin the fight.
A half-fleshed Su Lei can achieve balance between attack and defense, leveraging the knockback effect of its enhanced attacks to be very dominant in the early game.
